SOURCE AND METHODOLOGY

How to read Travelog user statistics

These pages make the supplied Travelog graphics readable, searchable and easy to reference.

Complete library and numbered versions

The supplied library contains 566 images. Regional and thematic versions are retained under descriptive names, even when their original filenames ended in _2 or _3. Only two world-level near-duplicates identified by the publisher are excluded, leaving 564 distinct collections.

Country and city visits

The dated country source treats a destination as visited when a country record, a city record or a landmark record exists there. City collections count city records; a landmark record alone does not necessarily count as a city record. Denominators are the users who recorded a qualifying place in the collection group, not all app users.

World indicators and units

World data includes economic, demographic and other indicators reproduced from supplied graphics. These use their own dates, units and source notes and are separate from Travelog visit rates. They are chart transcriptions, not live feeds or an independent verification of current figures.

What the visit percentages mean

The graphics report visits recorded by Travelog users. For the dated landmark collections, the denominator is users with at least one recorded landmark in that collection, not all app users. Other graphics have only the scope printed in their source image. They do not report annual tourist arrivals, total visits, or the preferences of all travelers. Each percentage is reproduced from its own source graphic.

What is known about the source

Travelog supplied the original images. Tables and CSV files transcribe printed names, ranks and values, including units. Expanded destination names make abbreviations easier to read. Country labels for cities identify their locations. Original image links let readers check the transcription.

Sample size and collection dates

The landmark collection source dated 2026-10-16 defines eligible users as those who recorded at least one landmark matching the list’s topic and region. Where a graphic matches that source, its page states the collection-specific eligible user count and snapshot date. A snapshot is an export date, not the period when trips occurred. Older graphics without a matching source retain an explicit unknown-sample note. The date a page is published or updated is not the date the underlying visits were recorded. Without the original denominators, percentages cannot be converted into counts or used to calculate confidence intervals.

Which landmarks are included?

The dated source includes landmarks with available catalog images and keeps ten entries per list. A landmark can belong to multiple topics. Some subcategories, such as denominations or museum types, were assigned by name. These are publisher-defined collections, not a universal classification of attractions.

Rankings, ties and thematic collections

Ranks follow the source graphic. Equal percentages may have different printed ranks because the displayed values are rounded; the original order is retained. “Catholic Countries” is a publisher-defined thematic collection, not a demographic classification of countries or users.

Comparing different graphics

The same landmark can have different percentages in separate collections. Collections use different eligible user groups; older graphics may also have different snapshot dates. Compare entries within a graphic; do not merge percentages across graphics or assume changes over time.

Using and citing a table

Link to the individual statistics page and name Travelog as the source. State the collection name, Travelog as the source, and the denominator and snapshot when supplied. For older graphics, mention that sample size and observation dates are unavailable. CSV downloads contain the same rows as the visible table. No additional reuse licence is granted by this page.
