Landmarks 8

Must-see · 5

  1. 1

    Macroplaza

Monterrey's vast central plaza is the city's urban heart and the natural starting point for a first visit, linking the old town with the modern downtown. Go in the early morning or late afternoon to avoid the midday heat, and wear comfortable shoes for the long walk across it.

  2. 2

    Cerro de la Silla

The saddle-shaped mountain is Monterrey's defining icon and frames the city from almost everywhere. The best views are on clear mornings; head to a viewpoint or the surrounding hills rather than attempting the summit without proper gear.

  3. 3

    Parque Fundidora

A former steelworks turned sprawling park, it blends industrial heritage with green space and is a favorite for a relaxed half-day. Visit early on weekends to beat the crowds, and bring water and sun protection as shade is limited in parts.

  4. 4

    Barrio Antiguo

The cobblestone old quarter is the most atmospheric place to wander, with colorful facades and a lively evening scene. Come in the late afternoon for photos, then stay for dinner; it is easily reached on foot from the Macroplaza.

  5. 5

    Museo de Historia Mexicana

A well-regarded museum tracing Mexican history, located right by the Macroplaza and worth an air-conditioned break from the heat. Check opening days before you go, as many museums close on Mondays.
