Landmarks 6

Must-see · 5

  1. 1

    Saint Sophia Cathedral

Harbin's most photographed landmark, a green-domed Russian Orthodox cathedral that now houses a museum of city architecture. Go early morning for fewer crowds and better light on the brick facade; it sits a short walk from the central shopping street.

  2. 2

    Songhua River

The wide river that shapes Harbin, popular for riverside walks and, in deep winter, frozen activities on the ice. Visit at sunset for the best views; the promenade is free and easy to reach from the central districts.

  3. 3

    Stalin Park

A long riverside park along the Songhua, a relaxed local spot for strolling and people-watching. Combine it with a river walk; it is free and busiest in summer evenings and during winter ice season.

  4. 4

    Harbin Polarland

A polar-themed aquarium known for its penguin and beluga displays, a good indoor option in harsh weather. Check show times before you go and allow a couple of hours; it is on the Sun Island side of the river.

  5. 5

    Volga Manor

A Russian-style park with wooden architecture and gardens outside the city center. It needs a taxi or bus ride and a half day, so go on a clear day and check opening hours in winter.
