    Sanfang Qixiang

This well-preserved quarter of old lanes and Ming- and Qing-era houses is the city's most famous sight and the reason most visitors come to Fuzhou. Come early in the morning to walk the lanes before the crowds build, and allow a couple of hours to wander the side alleys.

  2. 2

    West Lake Park

A classic city lake with pavilions, walkways and gardens, good for a relaxed stroll or a boat ride. Late afternoon is the pleasantest time, and entry to the park itself is generally free.

  3. 3

    Fuzhou National Forest Park

A large green escape from the city with forest trails and picnic spots, worth a half day if you want nature. Go on a weekday morning to avoid crowds and bring water, as the grounds are extensive.

  4. 4

    Lin Zexu Memorial Hall

A museum dedicated to the Qing official Lin Zexu, a key figure in the city's history, and a good stop for context on the region. Check opening hours before you go, as many local museums close one day a week.
