  1. 1

    Souq Waqif

Doha's restored old market is the city's most atmospheric place to wander, with spice stalls, falcon shops and courtyard cafes. Come in the evening when it is liveliest and coolest, and dress modestly as it is a traditional area.

  2. 2

    Museum of Islamic Art, Doha

A landmark building on its own island with a world-class collection of Islamic art and great views back to the skyline. Check opening days and ticket prices online before you go, and allow a couple of hours.

  3. 3

    The Pearl-Qatar

A polished waterfront district of marinas, shops and restaurants built on reclaimed land. It is best in the cooler evening; taxis or a car are the easiest way to get there.

  4. 4

    National Museum of Qatar

The striking desert-rose building tells the story of Qatar from its early history to the present. Book tickets ahead and visit in the morning to avoid the midday heat.

  5. 5

    Katara Cultural Village

A cultural hub with galleries, an amphitheatre and a beach, good for an unhurried half-day. Go in the late afternoon or evening when it is cooler and more active.
