    Swap in instead

    • Add a coastal day to El Jadida for the Portuguese cistern and old walls; check train times on the day.
    • Swap one city afternoon for Rabat by train if you want more history and a calmer medina.
    • Beach lovers can spend a lazy afternoon at a Corniche beach club instead of another museum.

    Getting around

    • Tram line runs 05:30-22:30; one ride about 6-8 MAD with a rechargeable card.
    • Al Bidaoui train links the airport and some city stops, but stops are far apart.
    • Buses are cheap at about 5 MAD but routes are unclear and pickpockets are a risk.
    • Red petits taxis use meters; minimum fare 7 MAD, and drivers may pick up others.
    • White grand taxis run fixed routes and leave only when full; cheaper for long trips.
    • Ride apps like Careem and inDrive work; walking is fine in the centre and medina.

    Where to stay

    • Centre Ville · ≈ MAD 350–900 a night
Walk to the medina, the old walls and the Art Deco streets. Best base for first-timers without a car.
    • Anfa · ≈ MAD 600–1,600 a night
Quieter business and shopping district with big hotels; short taxi ride to the Corniche and the centre.
    • Corniche · ≈ MAD 500–1,400 a night
Sea views and beach clubs; good for evenings by the water, but you will need taxis for the sights.
    • Habous · ≈ MAD 300–800 a night
Near the new medina, the royal palace gates and the market; calm and traditional, a bit away from nightlife.

    Food & drink

    • Try Moroccan classics: tagine, couscous (often on Fridays) and harira soup. A simple sit-down meal is often around 60–120 MAD.
    • Head to the Central Market (Marché Central) area for fish and seafood; pick your fish and agree the price first.
    • Cheap eats: msemen pancakes, fresh orange juice and grilled sandwiches in the medina for about 15–40 MAD.
    • Mint tea and pastries in the Habous quarter make a good mid-afternoon break.
    • Alcohol is limited outside hotels and licensed restaurants. Check before you plan a drink with dinner.

    Tips

    1. The Hassan II Mosque is one of the few mosques in Morocco open to non-Muslims and is a must-see
    2. The city is more business-oriented and less traditionally touristy than Marrakech or Fes
    3. Architecture lovers should explore the French colonial Art Deco buildings downtown
    4. Always ask petit taxi drivers to turn on the meter (compteur)
    5. Dress conservatively, especially away from the beach clubs
